“There’s more trophies here than in Sunderland Football Club’s cabinet,” joked operations director Simon Roy-Toole. (Simon’s allegiance is to Newcastle rather than their local rivals.)
Simon and his sister Leanne Hardy, finance director, take care of Par’s day to day operations. Their parents Peter and Carol Roy-Toole, who developed the fuel distribution business some 23 years ago, are still are very much involved.
Continuous development and improvement
“Winning this award again is really pleasing and makes all of the hard work worthwhile,” said Leanne.
“Our mantra is one of continuous improvement. We’re always planning our next update and upgrade to our infrastructure, vehicles and business processes.
“On each of our five audits our score has increased, which again shows our policy of continuous improvement is manifesting itself into day in, day out operations. Plus, each auditor leaves us with their comments and recommendations as to how we can further develop our safety, environmental and operational standards.”
Par Petroleum recently won the Phillips 66 road marine contract
“Winning the Phillips 66 marine business helps even out the seasonal peaks and troughs in this business,” said Simon. We now operate 17 vehicles from 44 tonne artics to our domestic mini tanker and have the capability to supply and transport almost every type of fuel, whenever and wherever it’s required.
“To compete against major players in the marketplace, our point of difference as a smaller family run business has to be safety and service orientated with a can-do attitude. Good professionalism and excellent customer service costs nothing and can reap great rewards.”
Par’s family heritage dates back over a century ago when Simon’s great grandfather sold coal from the back of a horse and cart.
