Cycling the Pyrenees for World Land Trust

World Land Trust fundraising charity ride route across the Pyrenees
Setting out from San Sebastian on the Atlantic on Monday 20th September, Nick Smith, MD of A&D Publishing, publishers of Fuel Oil News, began his journey by bike to Perpignan on the Mediterranean to raise funds for World Land Trust.

Speaking to Nick before he set out, he stated simply: “I’m cycling over the Pyrenees for World Land Trust because they have a very neat model for protecting habitats.”

Turning his pedals for over 700km while ascending 13,500 meters and taking in some of the scarier looking cols of the Tour de France, including Tourmalet, Aspin and Aubisque, Nick is looking forward to sharing some of the more memorable moments along the way.

“There won’t be any support van to take our stuff, so we’ll be carrying everything. Plus, to keep the carbon footprint down, I’m taking an overland route starting with a bus from Deddington Market Square, then trains to Oxford, London, Paris and Hendaye.”

We asked why Nick had chosen to support World Land Trust to which he replied: “Well, if David Attenborough has decided to become Patron for a small outfit based in a sleepy Suffolk village while he’s busy appearing at the UN and negotiating deals with Netflix, then they must be doing some good stuff.”

If you’d like to help them to do some more ‘good stuff’ you can hear more about Nick’s journey and support him here.

World Land Trust fully appreciates the support as a spokesperson commented: “Every bit of support we get allows us to protect precious habitats and their wildlife.”
