The first company-owned and operated Evolo charging hub is currently under construction at a Gulf service station in Ebbw Vale. Located close to the A4046 and around two miles from Brecon Beacons National Park, the site is expected to serve local motorists and passing traffic with rapid charging facilities.
Certas said the aim of Evolo is to provide EV drivers with a fast, reliable and competitively priced charging service, reflecting growing demand for convenient public charging infrastructure.
According to figures cited in the announcement, electric cars accounted for 23.4% of new UK registrations in 2025, underlining continued momentum in the EV market.
Responding to needs
Gerry Welsh, Head of E-mobility at Certas Energy, said: “We know first-hand how frustrating charging at service stations can be and were resolute that our EV offer needed to be simple to use with easy, straightforward payment options.
“We spent time researching and listening to EV drivers and businesses to find out what they want and need when it comes to charging their vehicles – and we believe Evolo is a first-class product designed to meet those needs. Evolo is, quite simply, charging made easy.”
The launch also builds on Certas Energy’s wider transition strategy. In a previous interview with Fuel Oil News, the business highlighted investment in lower-carbon fuels, operational decarbonisation and practical customer solutions as part of a broader sustainability programme. Evolo Rapid Charge signals that this strategy now extends further into public EV infrastructure.
For distributors watching how larger operators are positioning for market change, the move is notable. Certas has already invested heavily in HVO supply infrastructure and wider sustainability initiatives. The addition of an owned EV charging brand suggests some major industry companies now see future growth in offering multiple energy options rather than relying on a single route to transition.
