For the first time, both the HVO Carbon Savings Calculator and the HVO & Diesel Balancing Calculator are being made available across all industries, enabling organisations to analyse their specific requirements for fleets, off-road vehicles and site equipment.
The HVO Carbon Savings Calculator now incorporates 2025 data from the Department for Energy Security & Net Zero, providing businesses with simulations of carbon savings based on latest government figures. This allows companies to see, in real time, the emissions impact of switching from diesel to hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO) – a fuel that can cut carbon emissions by up to 90%.
As an immediate, drop-in solution, HVO adoption is a practical step towards achieving the UK’s binding target of an 81% reduction in emissions by 2035, announced at COP29.
Clarity and confidence
Used alongside the HVO & Diesel Balancing Calculator – an industry-first tool that models the cost implications of a blended fuel mix – Certas believes businesses can gain both financial and environmental clarity when considering lower-carbon alternatives. The company aims for at least half of its customers switching to HVO to use one or both calculators as part of their decision-making process.
Andrew Scott, Liquid Renewables Manager at Certas Energy, said: “We’ve already seen many of our customers make impressive carbon savings on their journey to net zero. By putting real-time data directly into their hands, tailored to their specific business needs, we aim to give them clarity and confidence.”
He added: “Our partners can see exactly what they stand to gain in terms of emissions reductions, which makes the path to decarbonisation more tangible, achievable and transparent.”
By developing these digital tools, Certas Energy is demonstrating how fuel distributors can play a pivotal role in enabling the industry’s transition, equipping businesses with both the insight and confidence needed to accelerate their decarbonisation journeys.
