The students, who were invited to create eye-catching posters to promote road safety for both drivers and pedestrians, received their prizes at a special assembly. Promoting road safety awareness, winning and highly commended posters are now on display at the site.
Lily Thompson took the top prize for her vivid design, which detailed some vital tips for staying safe on the roads. Hayden Bell and Isla Bulmer were awarded second and third place respectively. Every child at the school also received high-visibility wristbands, to assist visibility when walking the roads in low light.
“It was a pleasure to welcome representatives from Certas Energy and the ‘fechan Truckstop to the school,” said head teacher, Lindy Clark.
“It is important that the children who live in the local area know how to keep themselves and others safe on the busy roads,” added Andrew Goodwin, Certas Energy’s national bunker manager.
“We were thrilled to be able to give something back to the local community by helping pupils engage with road safety principles through the competition.
“The opening of our new HGV refuelling facility demonstrates Certas Energy’s commitment to investment in the local area. We are proud to be able to offer a one-stop, convenient destination to benefit drivers travelling through Ecclefechan, and beyond.”
Ecclefechan is just one in a number of nationwide refuelling sites recently opened by Certas Energy.
