Tackling theft with technology: Tate Fuel Oils combines with D.T.S to thwart thief

It’s Drivers 1 – Thieves 0, thanks to an effective partnership between Tate Fuel Oils and delivery tracking systems supplier D.T.S.

Otley-based distributor Tate Fuel Oils managed to recover equipment stolen during a delivery thanks to the resilience of company driver Luke Woolliss and the latest tracking technology from D.T.S. (Delivery Technology Solutions).

Luke - driver for Tate Fuel Oils

The incident occurred during a routine delivery, when an opportunistic thief stole a D.T.S. tablet and a personal mobile phone from the vehicle. Demonstrating exceptional professionalism, Luke completed his delivery schedule and finished his working day before initiating the recovery process.

Race against time

With support from the D.T.S. team, Luke used the tablet’s integrated precision tracking technology to pinpoint the stolen devices at a specific location. Upon arrival, he coordinated with local police, able to provide them with real-time data supplied by the D.T.S. team.

In what became a race against time – with the tablet’s battery dropping to just 5% – Luke waited patiently for four and a half hours for officers to attend. The detailed tracking data allowed police to act with certainty, resulting in the successful recovery of both the company tablet and Luke’s personal phone.

Technology meets tenacity

“This incident highlights not only the effectiveness of modern tracking technology, but also the incredible dedication of the Tate Fuel Oils team,” commented Mike Smith, MD at D.T.S.

“Luke’s actions reflect the core values of professionalism and accountability that we strive to support through our platform.”

After the recovery, Luke made the 90-minute journey home, ending a long day with the satisfaction of knowing the equipment was safe and justice was served.
