Onroute celebrates grand opening of refurbished Swindon truckstop

Onroute Truckstops Ltd has officially marked the reopening of its newly refurbished Swindon Truckstop, reinforcing its commitment to improving facilities, welfare and security for HGV drivers across the UK.

The site, located just off the A420 near Junction 15 of the M4, reopened following a significant programme of investment and enhancement.

Part of the MB Energy group, Onroute continues to expand and upgrade its network of high-quality truckstops along key UK transport corridors. The Swindon redevelopment focuses on driver welfare, load security and operational convenience, while also supporting fleet operators navigating the energy transition.

Enhanced facilities and improved security

The refurbished Swindon Truckstop now features a new access and security system, currently progressing towards TAPA Level 3 accreditation, alongside three additional HGV parking bays. Safe, floodlit parking is available for more than 80 vehicles, providing drivers with a secure place to rest.

A completely refurbished service building includes a new café, modern welfare facilities and essential on-site amenities. The site also benefits from a fully automated 24/7 HGV fuelling station offering diesel, Renewable Diesel (HVO) and AdBlue, ensuring round-the-clock access for drivers and operators.

Supporting decarbonisation with HVO

The availability of Renewable Diesel (HVO) at Swindon reflects Onroute’s broader strategy to support customers in reducing emissions. With increasing pressure on fleet operators to decarbonise and report environmental performance, HVO is seen as a practical, near-term solution. The fuel is now available across Onroute’s UK network and is expected to play a growing role in road transport’s transition to lower-carbon energy.

Reopening event

The official reopening took place on Friday 16 January 2026, bringing together contractors and professionals involved in delivering the project, industry partners, customers, suppliers and representatives from across the MB Energy group. The project also received part funding from the Department for Transport.

The opening was formally completed by Heidi Alexander, who raised the new security barrier to welcome Emmanuel Bercea, a driver from Turners of Soham, delivering 36,000 litres of diesel supplied by MB Energy through its subsidiary BWOC Ltd.

Speaking at the event, André Cardoso, SVP Sales & Marketing at MB Energy, said the reopening marked “an exciting milestone” for Onroute and its ongoing investment in critical UK logistics infrastructure. Florian Lueckmann, Director Commercial Road Transport at MB Energy, added that the upgraded Swindon site exemplifies the group’s commitment to driver welfare, safety and security.

Part of a growing network

Onroute’s expanding truckstop network provides vital services for drivers and fleet operators, while forming part of MB Energy’s commercial road transport unit. This wider operation includes fuel card services and more than 300 conventional fuel stations within the tankpool24 network, which spans over 2,000 fuelling locations across Europe.

With the reopening of Swindon Truckstop, Onroute continues to strengthen its position as a key provider of safe, secure and future-ready roadside infrastructure for the UK’s haulage and logistics sector.
