Carr’s Billington Fuels is investing across its depot network, delivery fleet, and digital systems as it looks to reinforce reliability and customer service for rural and agricultural communities.

Depot upgrades secure year-round supply

Recent upgrades across the network reflect Carrs Billington’s dedication to operational excellence.

At its Dumfries depot, the business has completed a major tank farm refurbishment, ensuring secure storage and consistent supply. The site now features a 24/7 Pay @ Pump terminal for DERV and AdBlue, accepting all major fuel cards as well as debit and credit payments.

The Dumfries office is also undergoing refurbishment to create modern satellite services and meeting spaces, strengthening its role within the wider network.

Meanwhile, the Lancaster depot – located at Carr’s Billington’s feed mill – has benefitted from the installation of new Alpeco skid infrastructure.

“Alpeco’s robust and reliable systems are a perfect fit for our operational needs,” said Phillip Sharman, Director of Fuels.

Delivery fleet expansion

Looking ahead to 2026, Carr’s Billington Fuels is expanding its fleet with new DAF chassis tankers fitted with COBO bodies. These are designed for the unique challenges of rural delivery, enhancing capacity and ensuring dependable service during peak periods.

In parallel, the company is working with EA Projects to optimise fuel management systems across all depots, enabling more proactive stock monitoring and efficient replenishment.

Resilience in a challenging market

With the recent closures of Dalston and Jarrow terminals, supply chain resilience has become an increasing concern for many distributors. Carr’s Billington maintains confidence in its position thanks to a fully operational network of seven wet depots.

“Despite these closures, our position remains strong,” explained Duncan Smith, Head of Fuel Procurement and Business Development. “We offer a uniquely reliable supply solution backed by exceptional customer service and an enviable on-time delivery record.”

Year-round customer support

Carr’s Billington Fuels is prepared for the colder months, with a robust product range including DERV, gas oil, kerosene, and Fast Exocet additives. The company continues to partner with Exocet to ensure fuels meet high performance and efficiency standards.

Another area of investment is customer technology. Magnus telemetry tank monitors, available via the Carr’s Billington website, provide real-time fuel tracking and proactive sales team support. The system has proven particularly valuable for vulnerable and remote customers, giving them greater peace of mind during the heating season.

Building on community values

Founded in 1858, Carr’s Billington remains a proudly independent distributor rooted in local communities. Its ongoing investments in infrastructure, fleet, and technology reflect a long-term commitment to customers across the rural economy, ensuring it is well-equipped to meet seasonal demand while maintaining its hallmark speed and dependability.

“Our team lives and works locally,” said Phillip Sharman. “We take pride in delivering reliable, high-quality fuel solutions that support rural life and agricultural businesses.”
