Drivers’ hours consultation

p12 Tie breaker determines top driver
The Department for Transport (DfT) is consulting on changes to legislation concerning drivers’ hours, highlighted as part of the Red Tape Challenge.
The changes include:

  • the possibility of allowing a derogation from drivers’ hours rules for specialised vehicles transporting money or valuables
  • adopting the EU maximum 90 day limit between downloads of digital tachograph data from vehicle units (currently 56 days)
  • the removal of the requirement for drivers operating under domestic drivers’ hours rules to keep records

The Freight Transport Association is due to respond to the consultation, which closes on Friday 22 February.
