Great British Farm Fest partners with Certas to bring HVO into the agricultural spotlight

Certas Energy has announced it will power this year’s Great British Farm Fest using hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO), with around 20,000 litres of renewable diesel expected to be supplied to the three-day agricultural event.

Taking place at the NAEC Stoneleigh from 22–24 May, the inaugural Great British Farm Fest is expected to attract more than 60,000 visitors and will celebrate the UK farming community through a mix of agricultural showcases, live entertainment and industry engagement.

Headline appearances are set to include Jeremy Clarkson, Lisa Hogan, Kaleb Cooper, Charlie Ireland, Adam Henson and farming influencer Olly Harrison, who is also a brand ambassador for Certas Energy.

Festival organisers say visitors can expect more than 20 music acts, eight show rings and attractions including The Piddly Diddly – a pop-up version of Clarkson’s Diddly Squat Farm Shop.

Farmers get a closer look at HVO

Certas Energy said the event provides an opportunity for farmers and rural businesses to see HVO in use at scale and better understand its potential role in reducing emissions from existing diesel-powered operations.

As a drop-in replacement fuel, HVO can typically be used in existing diesel engines and machinery without modification, making it an increasingly discussed option for sectors such as agriculture where electrification of heavy equipment remains challenging.

Certas highlighted that HVO can deliver lifecycle greenhouse gas emissions savings of up to 90% compared with conventional diesel, while also helping reduce tailpipe emissions including nitrogen oxides (NOx), sulphur oxides (SOx), particulate matter and carbon monoxide.

Olly Harrison said: “It’s fantastic that such a significant event is being powered by HVO, marking a great opportunity for farmers like me to understand the difference that transitioning from diesel to HVO can make.”

Richard Billington, Managing Director of Energy Solutions at Certas Energy, said the event offered “a meaningful opportunity to demonstrate the power and benefits of HVO as an alternative to standard diesel”.

He added: “We are immensely proud that Certas Energy is once again able to lead by example as a responsible and sustainable energy transition partner, and look forward to celebrating the resilience, grit and dedication of our country’s brilliant farming community.”
