Astley Signs started trading in 1924, and the current directors are celebrating taking ownership of the business in April 1990. The company has spent the last 30 years building up an impressive client portfolio that includes familiar names in the fuel sector as well as grocery brands and international retailers, and provides them with the design and manufacture of signage and brand implementation services.
Currently supporting JET and Texaco, the company also works with Valero and MFG, including their new energy sites. Astley provides signage and brand implementation services including design, manufacture (including BS EN 1090 fabrication), installation and maintenance services – the full concept-to-completion solutions.
Celebrating a great achievement
The company’s head office on the Team Valley Industrial Estate, Gateshead, is now supported by a second production facility in Kettering, Northamptonshire, following the acquisition of signage company Sign of the Times in 2016 (rebranded Astley in 2020). A further two storage and distribution hubs in Leeds and Glasgow complete Astley’s estate, enabling the company to offer an industry-leading resource to deliver branding programmes across the UK.
Managing director (and owner) of Astley, Gavin Redhead comments: “It’s so wonderful to finally be able to celebrate this key milestone for the company, especially after the events of this last 18 months. We understandably made a conscious decision to delay the anniversary from last year, but now feel it’s the perfect time to celebrate our staff and all that has been achieved. The teams at our sites have worked exceptionally hard to build this business into what it is today, and we believe that 30 years in any industry, but particular this one that continues to experience turbulent times following the pandemic, is a great achievement for all involved.”
Sales director (and owner) of Astley, David Forrester continues: “The industry continues to change dramatically in response to the latest sector trends, and we also experience the same everyday challenges that other UK based manufacturers face, but we’ve been able to adapt and innovate in response. We have an amazing team of talented people who really drive the whole company forward and this significant anniversary simply allows us to offer our thanks to them, and our partners and clients who have supported us over this last three decades.”
Chairman (and owner) of Astley, David Redhead summarises: “I have witnessed such changes to the industry over the years, and the fact the company is still leading the way in sign making is a real credit to the hard work of all the teams. I’m exceptionally proud of what they’ve achieved.”
Celebrations at the company’s sites have included a staff raffle, an extra day’s holiday being gifted to each team member, staff goody-bags and a complimentary lunch and presentation for all the workforce, held on the 26th November.
