Run by Valero Energy (Ireland) Limited, which markets fuel in Ireland under the Texaco brand, the scheme will award €5,000 to one successful sports club in each of the country’s 26 counties. Since its launch, more than €600,000 has been distributed to over 125 clubs.
The initiative is open to properly constituted clubs across all sporting disciplines, regardless of size, membership or previous success in the scheme.
James Twohig, Director of Ireland Operations at Valero Energy (Ireland) Limited, said sports clubs are “an integral part of communities across Ireland”, providing physical, social and personal benefits to people of all ages.
He added: “Every club has its own ambitions and challenges, and we are pleased that the Texaco Support for Sport initiative can play a part in helping them achieve their goals.”
An opportunity for all
Former Ireland rugby international and broadcaster Donncha O’Callaghan will once again lead the adjudication process.
Highlighting the scheme’s accessibility, he said: “Every club has an equal opportunity to secure funding, regardless of its size, sporting discipline or competitive success.”
Previous recipients have represented a wide variety of sports, ranging from GAA, rugby and football to archery, climbing, kayaking, gymnastics and inline hockey.
Applications are now open, with clubs asked to outline their sporting activity, role within their community and how the funding would be used. Applicants must hold a valid Games and Sports Exemption Number.
The closing date is 21 January 2027, with adjudication to follow.
