The key appointments mark another important step in the Association’s work to support members and champion the future of liquid fuels.
Stephen Rhodes, Managing Director of Highland Fuels, has been appointed President of UKIFDA, succeeding Phil Murray, WCF CEO, who completed his term at the AGM.
Stephen brings extensive operational and strategic experience, along with a strong commitment to supporting distributors as the sector continues to evolve.
UKIFDA also confirmed Matthew Whitton, CEO of Watson Fuels, as the Association’s new Vice President.
Matthew’s background across supply, customer operations and strategic development will further strengthen UKIFDA’s leadership team as it continues to drive industry standards, training, advocacy and technical excellence.
Instrumental leadership
These appointments come at a time when the Association and its members are navigating a rapidly changing landscape shaped by political developments, global market pressures and international conflicts. Despite these challenges, UKIFDA remains focused on supporting a resilient, adaptable and forward‑looking sector.
A key part of this work is the ongoing Future Ready Fuel campaign, which continues to demonstrate the industry’s commitment to innovation, lower‑carbon liquid fuels and practical, customer‑focused pathways to decarbonisation. Under Stephen and Matthew’s leadership, the campaign will continue to grow, helping ensure that distributors, suppliers and customers are equipped for the transition ahead.
Outgoing President Phil Murray was thanked for his leadership and contribution during a year that saw strong member engagement and continued progress across UKIFDA’s strategic programmes.
Ken Cronin, CEO of UKIFDA, said: “Phil has provided steady, thoughtful leadership during an important period for our sector, and we are grateful for his service.
“Stephen and Matthew bring a wealth of experience and a clear understanding of the opportunities and challenges ahead. Their leadership will be instrumental as we continue to support members, strengthen our Future Ready Fuel campaign, and champion the role of liquid fuels in the UK’s evolving energy landscape.”
