Without the vital accreditation, QMRE would be unable to sell commercially the oil created from its VIXLA waste-to-oil system.
QMRE is introducing a network of VIXLA plastic Waste-2-Oil systems in the UK and Republic of Ireland. The system converts plastic waste back into oil, which with further processing, generates new and renewable plastic.
A typical QMRE VÍXLA system will convert 1kg of plastic waste into 1 litre of QUEL (pyro-oil) – 85% of the total, with 12% non-condensable gas used to heat the process and 3% carbon ash which can be used in construction products. The system operates for 330 days of the year. When fully operational with 100 sites each with four VIXLAS, 550-600,000 tonnes of plastic waste will be recycled per annum, which is 10-12% of the 2021 plastic waste figures. The offtake will be sold to plastic cracking companies who will use it to make new and renewable plastic in lieu of using feedstocks from fossil fuels.
Ultimately, QMRE aims to create a fully circular plastic economy – taking waste plastics, repurposing them into new materials, and reducing reliance on virgin fossil-based plastics. While some of their product may enter the fuel market, their primary mission remains clear: to eliminate plastic waste and transform it into valuable, sustainable resources.
