Silverstone Eliminox study shows lower emissions in track support vehicles

ElimiNOX, a distributor of SulNOx Group PLC products, has announced the conclusion of a study of ElimiNOX fuel conditioner technology at the Silverstone motor racing circuit to demonstrate the emissions reductions possible for track support vehicles.

ElimiNOX study

The evaluation was undertaken on three Mitsubishi L200 pickup trucks.  Emission tests were conducted using a Testo 350 analyzer for greenhouse gases and a Tuya Smart Model 2C08 measuring the particulate emissions.

The evaluation was conducted first on the vehicles without any ElimiNOX added to fuel, to establish a baseline, and repeated three months later. Emission readings were taken in all cases, first with the vehicle idling and again running at a constant 2500rpm.ElimiNOX was then added at the ratio of 2000:1 and the dose repeated when the vehicles required a fuel refill.

Significant impact

The impact on Nitric Oxide (NOx), a nitrogen oxide that contributes heavily to air pollution, was very significant, showing average decreases across the three vehicles of 41% when idling and 24% at 2,500 rpm. Carbon Monoxide (CO) emissions decreased by an average 50% and 21% respectively, while Particulate Matter (PM) results show a significant drop of 50-60% in production. This demonstrates a provable improvement in combustion when using ElimNOX. In addition, considerable reductions in NOx help to reduce AdBlue consumption, improve DPI filter life and enhance engine oil condition as a result of fewer particulate blow-by effects.

Commenting on the trial, ElimiNOX CEO Gwyn Lewis said: “The variety of settings in which ElimiNOX is proving to be highly effective is expanding rapidly. The motor racing industry understands only too well how our innovation helps to maximise the release of the energy content in fuel through improving combustion, leading to fewer GHG and PM emissions, as well as reduced fuel consumption. We continue to be highly encouraged by the potential for our products to be a force for good across a wide range of industries.”

Stephane Bazire, Head of Business Sustainability at Silverstone Circuits added: “For over 60 years Silverstone has made its mark as the UK’s leading motorsport venue, creating a powerful heritage around the world. Environmental and air quality concerns have never been greater or more in the spotlight, so these impressive results from ElimiNOX are an important step forward as we look to achieve a greener and more sustainable future for the sport.”
