Adler and Allan’s ethanol coalescing filter won the Environment Protection and Improvement category at this year’s Association for Petroleum and Explosives Administration (APEA) awards, announced earlier this month.

The filter is the first product of its kind which removes, on average, 95% of all benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and xylene (BTEX) components from surface water discharged from forecourt separators, says the company. BTEX compounds can cause acute and long term toxic effects if they enter the soil and groundwater system. In addition to their toxicity, benzene is known to be a carcinogen.

The ethanol coalescing filter has been designed so that it can be fitted to existing separators without modification, and meets stringent Environment Agency pollution guidelines.

“We’re thrilled to have been recognised in this way by the APEA,” said Alan Scrafton, group sales and marketing manager for Adler and Allan. “Our ethanol coalescing filter will help a wide range of businesses in the retail, oil, aviation and marine sectors – any industry where fuel is stored and dispensed on site.”

The APEA awards are open to members on an annual basis. The Environmental Protection and Improvement award recognises individuals, organisations and products that have had the biggest positive impact on environmental protection during the previous 12 months.

* Adler and Allan, has acquired the goodwill and assets of Aalto Technical Services Ltd, which provides a range of industrial services including tank cleaning, site maintenance and separator installation. Aalto Technical Services will be incorporated into Adler and Allan’s Manchester Walkden Office. All personnel have been retained.
