Volvo has teamed up with Gasrec
Volvo Trucks has teamed up with biofuel supplier Gasrec to help business customers cut haulage costs and reduce carbon emissions.
Gasrec is Europe’s largest supplier of Bio-LNG; a blend of liquefied natural gas and liquid biomethane (LBM). Volvo Trucks is the first truck manufacturer in the world to produce trucks tailored to run on renewable liquid and gaseous fuels. When substituted for diesel, Bio-LNG can cut fuel costs and CO2 by around 20%.

The two companies will co-operate commercially and technically to increase availability and promote the use of gas vehicles in the UK.

Under the agreement, the two companies will focus on supplying vehicles to potential customers in the areas served by Gasrec’s growing refuelling network. The companies will also exchange technical information and promote Europe-wide standards for the gas vehicle industry.
“At Volvo Trucks we believe that the viability of carbon dioxide-free transportation is not limited by technology, but rather by the availability of alternative fuels. Gasrec is a key player in this and we are one of the leading truck manufacturers with an energy-efficient gas truck already available on the market. Together we believe that we can enhance and speed up the introduction of LNG and LBM to the transport business, both through own activities and by inspiring others,” said Lennart Pilskog, director of public affairs, Volvo Trucks.

Gasrec’s chief executive, Rob Wood, added: “The Gasrec-Volvo collaboration is another signal that LNG fuel, like our uniquely sustainable Bio-LNG, is the most viable alternative for businesses looking to cut costs and emissions from heavy duty vehicles.”
